The teaser results of Dr Heidi Haavik’s Groundbreaking Study on Pelvic Floor Control + Chiropractic (set for publication) have been making the rounds on social media.
We felt it would be wise to ask an OBGYN what they think of the preliminary results and if they felt Chiropractic could help increase the odds of natural birth.
Luckily we have a Harvard-trained OBGYN at our disposal: Dr.Adrienne Lara, former clinical staff at Harvard Medical School and an OBGYN with over 20 years of experience from Boston to Southern California. (Read her 6 Reasons She Loves Chiropractic)
“Chiropractic Care offers the possibilities to help increase the chances of vaginal delivery and increase the safety of delivery” – Dr. Adrienne Lara
Dr Haavik: ‘We know that women experience on average a 24% reduction in the length of labour time with chiropractic care during pregnancy and that rises to a 33% reduction for those mothers who have given birth before. By altering the biomechanics and neuromuscular control of the pelvis we are likely enabling the muscles to become more relaxed and joints more mobile which probably helps them to expand more freely during labour and settle more easily afterwards.’ – source: http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/GE1410/S00034/benefits-of-chiropractic-care-during-pregnancy.htm
